Street
shopping may not sound very attractive and fun, but if you know the
correct places and have the patience to go through heaps of stuff, then
it may turn into a blessing in disguise. Mumbai, has a lot of such
hidden gems, where you can find very affordable clothes, bags, purses,
shoes and jewellery. Yes, they may not be very durable like the high
brands, but with the price they come at, even if you use these things
once or twice its value for money.
One
of the best places for street shopping in Mumbai is Hill Road Bandra.
Located at the intersection of Bandra railway station road and SV road,
most of the shops are cramped in the area near Marks and Spensers
(Globus Cinemas). It is a shopping paradise, if you have the right set
of eyes .
This area is covered with small shops and more importantly
stand alone street stalls where you will find every thing from t-shirts,
tops, pants, palazzos, dresses, scarfs to bags, clutches, hair
accessories, shoes and jewellery.
One
of my favorite shops is Fende Femme. They have a lovely collection of
maxi dresses and if you have patience to search from piles of clothes,
you will find some amazing printed t-shirts and tops. They do have a
section on handbags and bottoms too. Fende has a trial room too. There
are plenty of stalls selling some great women wear located in the
driveway leading to Enrich salon opposite Elco – just near the Manglore
stores. You will find lovely dresses and printed tops here. They have
plenty of chic scarves too, to complete your look.
If
you love accessories, then you definitely should visit Riddhi Art
Jewelry. They have a huge collection of neck pieces, earring and bangles.
You also get loads of pretty yet cheap hair accessories there. Some of
my friends had recommended Srinath for accessory shopping too. But the
best place to buy jewelry are the unnamed street stalls where you will
find loads of cheap yet nice neck pieces, earrings and bracelets/bangles.
There are two Ridhhi Art Jewelry stores on the same street – avoid the
one near Parison – its over-hyped and not that good. Try the other one !
There is one more accessory stall which I absolutely love – its between
Veronica and Fragrance store. More Useful Videos to Explore Mumbai

If
you are looking to shop for shoes, then you can try Veronica. They have
a large collection of regular and party wear shoes.
Now, coming to the most important part, things to remember while street shopping at Bandra Hill Road.
- Its a huge stretch of road and you will need to do a lot of walking, so better wear some comfortable footwear.
- The street stalls and vendors set up stalls only post 3 – 4 pm, so visit the markets in the evening for a complete experience.
- Its over crowded on the weekends, so if you plan on extensive shopping, its better to go on a week day.
- You should know the art of bargaining well, otherwise the vendors may end up ripping you off your money.
- There is no trial rooms available, so be sure of your size and keep room for alterations.
- Please remember, you are not buying stuff from some mall or branded shop, there is no guarantee or exchange available.
- All the clothes are usually export rejects, so look carefully before buying, get ones with minimal defects (well most of the times you don’t even realize there is a defect) .
